                 EXPEDITION TO NEPAL IN THE
              STEEP SLOPES OF THE HIMALAYA
A particularity that  we observe  in our  globalized  world is its diversity that we found in
particular  in  the  foothills of   the  Himalaya  when visiting  a country like  Nepal whose geographical, environmental  and  geological  data allow  you to discover radiant spaces
as close as possible to nature in its purest state.
Bordered to the north by China and its autonomous region of Tibet  and by India on the  rest of its borders, Nepal, which
has of a wide variety of landscapes stretching from the  south with  the humid  tropical  plains  of the  Terai province and
more to the north by the Himalayas including in particular 8 mountains among the highest in the world of which Everest
is great as presented to me by the group of French guides led by Patrick SWINKA as part of their expeditions carried out
in 2019." This vast territory  that is  the Himalaya is  made up of  a mountainous  area that  is called by " Aire  Hindu Kush
Himalaya" which integrates the Karakorma, Hindu Kush and Pamir mountain ranges the whole covering 8 countries for a
population of 140 million inhabitants. Extended over more than 2400 kilometers since the Nanga Parbat  in Pakistan and
up to the Namche Barwa, the Himalayas  have  3 parallel chains  broken down in order  altitude and  geological  area that
are the chain called "Sub Himalayan" or "Hills of Shivalik"which amounts to 1200 meters of altitude parallel to that called
"Bas  Himalaya" whose  altitude varied  between  2000  and  5000 meters and  finally the chain  further north  called "The
Himalaya " which  is the  oldest  of  the  three and which  amounts  to more  than 8000 meters of elevation incorporating
many of the highest peaks in the world such as Everest, Lhotse and  Kanghenjunga. Our expedition whic took  place over
3 months during the spring and summer of 2019 remains a memory for us, extraordinary and a  fabulous and unforgetta-
ble experience  taking  into  account  that our  group of  mountain guides  composed of  6 people and  accompanied by 2
2 Nepalese  guides is,  certainly,  seasoned and  experienced  but with  experiences  in the years  spent in the French and
Italian Alps and not in such highs " explains Patrick SWINKA,Yves GERFAULT and François LANGEVIN.

In the Heart of the Great Wilderness Areas

“The highest regions of the Himalaya  are covered  in snow all  year round despite  their proximity to  the tropics and this

bigs mountains range  also has many  glaciers  including Siachen  which measures more of 70 kilometers and which feed

many  rivers.  What is  also radiant  is to walk  along  and admire  the lakes which are mainly located at an altitude of less

than 5000 meters, the largest of which is called "Pangong T'So" located on  the border between  India and Tibet which is

134 kilometers long and 8  kilometers  wide. When we  climbed to the  top of "Manaslu" alson nicknamed "Kutang Moun-

tain Of The Spirit or  Mountain  of  the Spirit "  which  culminates  at 8163  meters  above  sea  level, we have also rubbed

shoulders with a rich and diverse flora and fauna in particular by our encounter  with large  ruminant bharals of the Bovi-

dae family which live in the Himalayas in the same way  as the  famous snow  leopard "Snow Leopard" which is an endan-

gered species despite the current prevention and  protection  programs. We were  also well prepared physically for these

expeditions because the  climatic  conditions  at such  high altitudes  are very  particular and have impact on our physical

abilities of resistance to cold with very low  temperatures  that we had  anticipated in the  configuration of our itineraries

and circuits.  Contacts  with the  population  were  warm and  welcoming  especially  in the  shelters and  villages that we

crossed in good balance with respect for local customs and the different ethnicities and castes encountered.A specificity

which is worth the detour and which also represents the originality of this wonderful country is to discover the Terai belt

which is represented by a marshy area composed of sandy and clay soils in addition to the current of the rivers that from  the Himalaya that we have crisscrossed with curiosity and interest on our return from the summits" tell me  with big smi-

les Christian PATRIER and Gilles  LAVOIS other  members  of the  expeditions.  Nepal and its  majestic peaks  allowing an immersion in the heart of the great wild spaces represents, in addition to  its sporty and  adventurous  aspect, the image

of an eternal Asia miraculously preserved, vibrant and authentic which fascinates  with the beauty  of its landscapes and the serenity of its places.
